About the Artist :
I'm Daniel Villa, a Stockton-based artist specializing in Linoleum and Woodcut Printmaking. I've been refining my skills in these mediums since late 2019. I'm part of Art Expressions of San Joaquin a non-profit organization supporting arts education and promoting underrepresented artists. I've worked with Yosemite National Park, The Haggin Museum, and Speedball Arts Materials in providing printmaking classes and demonstrations. I publish a weekly newsletter called The Inkplate. Besides printmaking from my home studio, I enjoy reading, watercoloring, and camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Greetings All,
I'm not one for sitting in one spot for long but Director's Roundabout seemed confusing and the Director's circle seemed exclusive. I thought there could be a way to summarize the month, anticipate the moments to come, and catch us up on the happenings of the Gallery, so begins the Director's Corner.
We are starting the year off with new ideas and hurdles to be expected. Since I've started in 2018 (that is correct this is Year 6 for me), each year brings increasing challenges but has reaped greater reward. This year we are focusing on youth programming, better business practices for artists, and art skill development as we continue to serve members and welcome new ones.
We continue to partner with other arts organizations to build stronger communities. This includes local advocacy for arts and culture and petitions for sustainable funding for city-wide, community-based programs. Check out the local art scene below and opportunities to learn new skills. The work is happening and programs are looking for participation.
Personally, I have made a few adjustments to my schedule which includes taking on the role of Adjunct Instructor at the University of the Pacific for the ceramics program. I hope to share potential future collaborations. All of this has been made possible because of the members staffing the gallery each week. In addition, I would I want to thank Susan von Sosten for filling in for me last year during my schedule changes and for also updating our extensive online Square inventory. I also want to welcome Kat, our new Gallery Assistant, who is taking on the task of receiving work and archiving the flat file artworks.
I look forward to this growth opportunity and utilize support staff to focus on outreach development.

We'd like to give a warm welcome to Kat Castaneda our new Gallery Assistant. You may have already met Kat during our pickup and delivery days for members or at the front desk. Kat has been working at the Stockton Art League since October 2022 but has been taking on more responsibility as the Gallery Assistant. Kat's role is already proving to be a valuable contribution by supporting the gallery on day-to-day activities and leaving room for Jessica, our director to focus on grant writing and admin roles.
Kat has a background of working at the Programs Manager at Tuleburg Press and was Gallery Assistant at the LH Horton Gallery at SJC Delta Community College along with accomplishments in book arts, printmaking, and ceramics.
Be sure to say hello the next time you stop by.
Kat enjoys a good cortado (coffee with milk) or a spicy chai latte.
