Andrew D. Ciminelli
May Artist of the Month
"Reflections of My Painting Days"
I have studied Photography and Sculpture at University of the Pacific and attempt to combine elements of both into my artwork. I approach photography with ideas of Cubism and Principles of college in order to create a final product with an abstract construction and a touch of reality. Photography by nature is based on capturing reality and portraying it with intent, however my photography uses multiple perspectives and college to “paint” with light. My interpretations of the natural environment range from tangible to severely abstracted. In essence, these artworks are my illustrations of what I see through the camera and a fresh insight into the extraordinary world we inhabit.
The Artist's Reception is May 12th from 4:00PM - 7:00PM.

President's Message
Many creative souls have quirky, outside the box ideas and visions of life that enrich us, stretch us, at times shock us and help us to grow.
Can you guess three artists the following could be attributed to?
- Drew on synesthesia, seeing colors when listening to music band incorporated them into abstract works.
- Used gunpowder to create exhibitions for extraterrestrials.
- Created art from inside a Ford Model A.
Monday night, June 11th, is our General Meeting. Come and meet interesting artists, hear STORIES, share GREAT FOOD and get
some answers, if you haven’t figured them out already! It will be a fun opportunity to get to know some of our community artists and supporters of art.
- Amy Baskerville

The Stockton Art League Welcomes Back
Artist Demonstrations
to the Goodwin Gallery
Entailing a variety of media, these demonstrations are FREE and Open to the Public. These motivating demonstrations are designed for the individual to develop an appreciation for all forms of art, and serve to enrich the appreciation of art in our community.
For the month of May, the Stockton Art League presents the photographic talent of Andrew D. Ciminelli.
"Photography, as a medium, is constantly pushing conventional limits due to new innovative technologies. Utilizing these technologies to take full control of a print can take an average photograph to a new level. In my own work, I employ several methods using modern technology to create a unique and nonobjective final print. My demo will cover what formal elements play a role in nonobjective photography, some of the technologic processes that I use, and then I will finish with an activity based on the methodology of my process for everyone to enjoy."
In conjunction with this demonstration, Ciminelli is exhibiting his new work, Reflecting on My Painting Days during the month of May as Stockton Art League's Artist of the Month.
This event is FREE and Open to the Public

The Stockton Art League presents Guest Demonstration Artist
Heinie Hartwig
June 24, 2018
2pm-5pm
Hartwing will paint a landscape in a traditional process of the Old Masters from 1860 to 1900. Hartwig primarily paints western landscapes although he also paints seascapes, animals, abstracts and still life.
Hartwig’s artwork has been favorably compared to Albert Bierstadt and John Constable for its romanticism, European feel and composition. The overall results of his experimentation and training have led to numerous commendations and awards, including the prestigious Triton Museum of Art competition. Hartwig’s artwork is proudly displayed in such venerated institutions as Brigham Young University, Mills College, the Robert Louis Stevenson School and the Monterey Institute of Foreign Studies. His western landscapes may be found in the permanent collection of museums nationwide and in Russia.
This event is FREE and Open to the Public

Edward and Ruth Freedman
Art Collection
Through the suggestion of SAL member John Lechner, the Stockton Art League started a project to catalog the existing works of Edward and Ruth Freedman with the assistance of their sons Lucas and Walden Freedman. Each had their own artistic interests and were well known in the Stockton community. Ruth Freedman was known for her photography and Ed was known for his ceramic and paper works. The works cover a comprehensive study of different art processes including but not limited to printmaking, ceramics, calligraphy, and jewelry.
Beginning in May, the Freedman artworks will be on display at the Goodwin Gallery and available for purchase.
