From the Artist:
Hello, I’m Fred Everly. I have been painting since 2003. I’m a retired administrator from the State of California. I began painting seriously with oil paint since 2007. I have taken several college level courses in art design, watercolor, figurative painting, pastel, and acrylic, but found oil painting my preferred medium. I have always had an interest in painting, following primarily 20th Century German and Austrian Expressionism. My studies in this artistic form has followed the works of artists such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Christian Schad, Franz Marc, August Macke, Max Beckmann, and little-known artist Lotte Laserstein.
My initial work concentrated on portraiture attempting to capture the model’s expression and personality in the painting. Figurative painting has always appealed to me. Now, while studying for more than two years with internationally noted artist Mr. Ning Hou, I have broadened my scope to the California Central Valley and looking for structures and everyday scenes that capture my eye (i.e., grain elevators, Stockton Port scenes, bridges, structural buildings, and everyday valley rural scenes). While I paint for myself and my own pleasure, it is my hope that you, the viewer, will equally enjoy my art and allow it to capture your eyes.
It is my goal to continue to paint, based here in the Central Valley and continue to paint both people and scenes that intrigue me and that express my love of color and imagery in an expressionistic mode. I believe my insights give a very different perspective to how I paint. I sincerely hope you enjoy my work.
