All Stockton Art League Programs and Open Studios will continue as normal with the help of studio monitors. If you are interested in becoming a studio monitor or have additional questions about the Gallery Hours please contact Jessica at [email protected] or call the desk at (209) 466-6604.

With the change in Gallery Hours, the required "Exhibiting Member" shifts will be 3.5 hour shifts (11am-2:30pm & 2:30pm-6pm). In addition, the 6 hours per month requirement has been changed to 3.5 hours per month (equal to 1 shift) 

Upcoming Artist Workshops

Painting Workshop with Heinie Hartwig

October 21st 10AM - 6PM

Following a large turnout at the June Artist Demonstration, the Stockton Art League invites Heinie Hartwig for a painting workshop at the Elsie May Goodwin Gallery.

Hartwig will lead students through an oil painting with various techniques and advice. Students should expect to complete a painting by the end of the one-day workshop session.

Material List:
Material List: Easel – standing, field or tabletop; Canvas: 12x16 or 9x12; Brushes: Flats #4, 8 and 12, a size #6 stiff fan brush, a size #6 Princeton red hair script brush; Oil or Acrylic paint colors: ivory black, Permabla white, yellow light, cadmium yellow deep, cadmium red light, alizarin crimson, ultramarine blue, cerulean or phthalo blue, sap green, cadmium green, and burnt sienna; Medium: For Oil: Odorless mineral spirits and linseed oil, turp pot, rounded tip knife, palette knife, rags and paper towels.

Cancellation Policy:
Pre-Registration and Registration are non-refundable but transferable. The Stockton Art League reserves the right to cancel or postpone courses due to low enrollment, or other unforeseen circumstances (illness, weather, etc). In these rare instances, your registration will be refunded in full. The Stockton Art League is not responsible for travel expenses incurred by the participant in the event of a cancellation or postponement. If you are preregistered, the Stockton Art League will attempt to notify you should a course be rescheduled or cancelled. Please ensure that the Stockton Art League has your full contact information in case this happens.

Youth Art Program

October Saturday Session  
Enrollment Open

Dates: Saturdays, October 13, 20, 27, & November 3. 
Session Groups
Ages 6-8: 9:00am -10:30am 
Ages 9-13: 11:00am - 12:30pm
Ages 6-20: 1:00pm - 2:30pm

This program is funded in part by a Muller Niven Grant sponsored by the Stockton Arts Commission.

Instruction will focus on the basics of drawing, including multiple media studies in value, perspective, composition, contour drawing, positive vs. negative space, and color theory. Students must sign up for the entire series, and the classes will be filled on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a waiting list in case of cancellations. Scholarships are available. 

A reception for the students, parents and friends showcasing the students' artwork will be held on November 3rd.

Mission Statement of the Stockton Art League Youth Art Program
To provide low cost, high quality art instruction to the youth of Stockton, and to instill in them an appreciation of the arts as an process in all endeavors, and a discovery of the power of creativity.

Includes Open Lab Sessions Every Thursday from 3-5PM


Open to the public and SAL members, Basic Concepts of drawing are vital to every visual artistic medium. Mora brings his 39 years of experience as artist, teacher, and judge to the Stockton community at the Elsie May Goodwin Gallery. Students will participate by practicing the basic concepts of contour drawing, sketching, and shading with black and white before going on to colored pencil.

Tuesday Morning Open Studio

Open to all artists (Stockton Art League members and non-member; beginning and advanced levels). The participants share their art experiences, exchange notes on new projects, and offer feedback on works in progress. There is a suggested $2 donation to help support more Stockton Art League programs.


Thursday Afternoon Open Studio
11AM-3PM

Open to all artists (Stockton Art League members and non-member) with various media including pastels, acrylic, and oil. Painting and drawing is encouraged. A small sink is available for clean up of water-based materials. There is a suggested $2 donation to help support more Stockton Art League programs.
