Stockton Art League: Fostering Arts and Culture in San Joaquin County

A State-Local Partner Mentee in collaboration with Amador Arts & the California Arts Council

Our Partnership and Purpose

The Stockton Art League serves as the State-Local Partner (SLP) Mentee for San Joaquin County, working with Amador Arts and the California Arts Council (CAC) to strengthen arts, culture, and creative expression across the county.

The SLP program fosters cultural development at the local level through a partnership between the State and California’s counties and provides general operating support and technical assistance to county-designated local arts agencies.

Our Shared Vision: Centering Equity and Accessibility

We are committed to cultural equity and expanding universal access to the arts. This includes supporting historically under-resourced, excluded, and erased artists, audiences, communities, and cultural practices—such as BIPOC, rural, immigrant, 2SLGBTQIA+, disabled, youth, elders, low-income, and unhoused populations—and ensuring accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

Our Role & Key Activities in San Joaquin County

  • Providing financial support, services, and programming for artists, organizations, and the community.
  • Administering the county-wide Poetry Out Loud competition with school and community partners.
  • Offering direct programming, grantmaking, networking, mentoring, and advocacy.
  • Promoting CAC grant opportunities and providing workshops/technical assistance.
  • Collecting data on communities served to inform county needs and support CAC evaluation.
  • Prioritizing engagement with historically under-resourced communities, including those in lower quartiles of the California Healthy Places Index.

Our Impact & Future Goals

We aim to strengthen local arts infrastructure, expand participation, and ensure consistent quality and equity of service across the county, aligned with the statewide vision of the California Arts Council.
